In 2018 and 2019 we worked with NY farmers to field test Berry Blossom to amazing success. The genetics resisted most pests and pathogens, thrived throughout the different New York State growing climates, and resisted rote, powdery mildew, and botrytis. The plants will finish in early October and can produce up to a pound per plant.
Berry Blossom by CSG
As we began planning to grow hemp on six farms in the 2018 season we encountered an all-to-familiar problem for hemp growers in the Northeast; the vast majority of high-CBD genetics were bred to be successful in completely different climates. Pests, pathogens, weeds, soil types, and climate all present unique challenges that the right genetics can help to solve.
During the 2018 season our team, lead by Chief Agricultural Officer Aldous Loyd, utilized their combined decades of experience working with cannabis genetics to begin development on a cultivar that would give growers in the Northeast an advantage. Starting with a proven cultivar, Berry Blossom, we grew over 20,000 plants in four locations across New York State. Late into the season, Berry Blossom performed above and beyond our expectations. Through careful observation, we identified unique phenotypes and began the selection process in our indoor facilities. Based on our hands-on experience, we set out to breed a cultivar that excelled in the following areas:
1) Quick establishment to allow for flexibility in planting
2) Wide pH tolerance to allow plants the best ability to absorb critical nutrients.
3) Heartiness and resistance to common molds and fungi that affect plants during wet and cold harvest times
4) High CBD and terpene levels that can deliver the maximum economic success
After two years of selective breeding , we were successful in achieving our goals and creating a cultivar that would set Northeast growers up for success.
